Choosing a Monitor For You Home Built PC

One of the greatest pleasures that you can get when building your own computer is the ability to choose your own computer monitor. Computer monitors are available in many shapes, sizes and price tags. Complete computer systems usually come with low-cost monitors to save on company expenditures. When you are building your own computer, you have the liberty to choose the type of computer monitor that you want and need!

There are two types of monitors that you can choose from when you are selecting computer parts for a system that you intend to build from scratch. Monitors can be purchased as CRTs or cathode ray tubes and LCDs or liquid crystal displays.

A CRT monitor may work well for you, but the LCD monitor has more benefits. For one, a CRT monitor consumes more power than a similar LCD model. If you want to save electricity, you should get an LCD monitor.

CRT monitors also suffer from screen flickers which can cause eye strain. LCDs do not have this problem. Thus, you can work easier, longer and more comfortably with an LCD computer monitor.

The LCD monitor is also great if you want to save space on your table, and easier to transport compared to the bulky CRTs. A lot of computer users are not even able to carry their own 17-inch CRT monitors by themselves. If the unit gets damaged, it is difficult to transport the CRT monitor to the PC repair shop. LCDs are easier to lift since they come at about one-fifth or less the size and weight of a CRT monitor.

To top off everything, an LCD computer monitor just looks better than the CRT! It is best to shoot for an LCD monitor when you are building your own computer. They are more expensive than the CRTs but the difference is not that great and you can get more value out of them in terms of efficiency and performance.
