The motherboard usually has two connectors IDE (Integrated Device Electronics):
• The first connector is known as the primary device driver.
• The second is known as the secondary driver device.
Each can support two IDE cable connected to a single tape, counting a total of 4 devices IDE (two from each ribbon cable connected to the motherboard). To overcome the limit of 4 IDE devices can be connected through a further expansion card or an IDE controller SCSI controller.
When you connect two devices at the same IDE ribbon cable (a cable that connects a driver or two IDE devices to the motherboard), we must tell the computer which of the two takes precedence, or more precisely, which one is the master and what the slave, which is abbreviated SL. To do this, devices must be configured using the jumpers located on the back of the device (next to IDE connector). Usually there is a small device in the diagram illustrating the positions of the bridges to the master disk (M) or slave (SL).
Note that sometimes you will find an abbreviation CS (the English acronym for the selection of cable), which means that the selection between master and slave disk is automatically determined when the two discs have this option, if the motherboard supports.
It is also recommended to connect devices of the same type with the same ribbon cable as the bus speed of adapting to slow device connected to the cable. Therefore, we recommend placing the discs in a cable and burners IDE CD-ROM and in another (a CD burner is installed in exactly the same way as a CD-ROM).
