The Truth About Ink-Saving Software

There are several different brands of ink saving software available on the market, and they each work a little differently. Generally speaking, however, most follow one of these parameters. Some ink saving software uses a colour management system to promote more use of black ink and less use of colour.

Other software delivers a pop-up window whenever a command is given to print, asking the user to tell the software how much ink should be used for the job. Many benefits of ink-saving software can be found in your printer settings. If you want to save on ink without buying and installing new software to do it, here are a few tips.

Print in the most ink-efficient settings. Some printer drivers come with Normal as the default setting. If you want to save ink, you may need to manually adjust the settings each time you print-or you may be able to change the default.

Don't use colour ink for black-and-white pages. Some printers will use colour ink even if you're printing a black and white document, unless you specifically tell the machine not to. Don't use colour ink for grayscale printing. Some colour inkjet printers come with colour as the default setting regardless of what you're printing.

Avoid cleaning print heads frequently. Cleaning print heads generally involves shooting ink out of the cartridge to clear blockage from dried ink. Check your computer's settings to see how often it's programmed to clean print heads.

If you're concerned about conserving ink, there are plenty of ways to do it without spending more money. With careful management of your ink use, you may not need ink saving software.
